Loaded Fried Steak Tortas

Inspired by the popular Angeleno sandwiches- this sandwich is a perfect mash up of Mexican and Californian flavours. Soft and crust buns are layered with sliced avocado, pickled red onion, deep fried country fried steak, crumbled queso fresco cheese and a chili sauce for an added kick.

butter 2 TBSP
crusty buns 4
avocado, peeled, pitted and sliced 1
crumbled queso fresco 1/2 cup
chili sauce 2 tbsp
red onion, sliced 1
red wine vinegar 1/2 cup
granulated sugar 2 tbsp


  1. Deep Fryer: Preheat oil to 350°F. Place steaks in oil, heavy breading side face down; cook for 3 1/2 minutes or until internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  2. Pickled Red Onion: In small saucepan, bring onion, vinegar and sugar to boil. Simmer for 3 to 5 minutes or until onion is softened; drain liquid. Let cool completely.
  3. Spread butter evenly over buns. Layer avocado, Pickled Red Onion, steaks, queso fresco and chili sauce on bottom halves of buns. Cap with tops of buns.
